Maradona's 'Hand of God' Ball Fetches £2.5 Million at Auction

Diego Maradona's iconic ball, used during his controversial 'Hand of God' goal against England in the 1986 World Cup, has been auctioned for £2.5 million.

The Adidas Azteca ball played a crucial role in Argentina's 2-1 victory in the quarter-finals, including the moment Maradona punched it past goalkeeper Peter Shilton. Despite its historical significance, the auction price was significantly lower than the anticipated £7.3 million.

The ball was kept by referee Ali Bin Nasser, who confirmed its authenticity with documentation. It had previously sold for $2.37 million in 2022 but did not meet the seller's reserve in a subsequent auction.
