Marc Marquez Advocates for Unity Among MotoGP Riders
Marc Marquez has expressed his belief that MotoGP riders will eventually unite to form a commission that represents their interests, similar to the Grand Prix Drivers' Association in Formula 1. This statement comes amid discussions regarding the new weekend format for the upcoming season, which includes a dedicated qualifying session for sprint races.
The changes, confirmed by MotoGP and the Federation Internationale de Motocyclisme, have sparked differing opinions among riders. Some, like Francesco Bagnaia and Luca Marini, view the new format positively, while others, including Marquez, argue it will increase the demands on riders already operating at their limits.
Despite the ongoing debate, a common concern among riders is their lack of representation. Previous attempts to establish a riders' association have faltered due to disagreements over costs and priorities. Marquez noted that while he is seen as a potential leader for such an organization, the current dynamics among younger riders complicate the formation of a unified front. He remains optimistic that a collective body will eventually emerge.
