Marc Marquez Claims Victory in Indonesian GP Sprint, Takes Championship Lead
Marc Marquez achieved an unexpected victory in the Indonesian Grand Prix sprint race, propelling himself to the lead in the MotoGP world championship standings for the first time in 2026.
The race saw a controversial incident at the first corner, where Aprilia's top riders Raul Fernandez and Marco Bezzecchi crashed, allowing Marquez to capitalize on the situation. Jorge Martin, who led for much of the race, finished in fourth place.
Despite starting two points behind Martin, Marquez managed to take the lead on lap nine after Martin experienced a potential tyre pressure issue. Martin's late mistake on the penultimate lap further hindered his chances, resulting in him finishing behind Ai Ogura and Fabio Di Giannantonio. Alex Marquez and Pedro Acosta rounded out the top six, while last year's winner Fermin Aldeguer finished seventh.
