Marc Marquez Comments on Australian GP Cancellation Due to Weather
Marc Marquez stated that the track conditions at Phillip Island were acceptable for racing, following the cancellation of the Australian Grand Prix due to heavy rain and visibility issues. The race was called off after delays when the medical helicopter was unable to operate, which is crucial for ensuring swift medical transfers in case of accidents.
Despite the adverse weather, Marquez assessed the circuit's safety during demonstration laps and expressed disappointment for the fans, noting that the cancellation was a safety precaution. He highlighted his readiness to race and the unfortunate timing for Phillip Island, which is set to be replaced by a new urban circuit in Adelaide next year.
Ducati team manager Davide Tardozzi acknowledged that the wet conditions could have favored Marquez, who had secured pole position, but emphasized that safety must take precedence over competition. He reflected on the importance of rider safety, recalling past tragedies in the sport.
