Marc Marquez's Tyre Strategy Secures Victory Over Marco Bezzecchi in Misano Sprint
Marc Marquez achieved victory in the San Marino Grand Prix sprint by opting for Michelin's medium rear tyre, a choice that surprised many as most riders selected the soft compound. This strategic decision allowed him to outperform Marco Bezzecchi, who started from pole position and remained on the soft tyre.
While 15 out of 21 riders chose the soft tyre, Marquez's gamble paid off as he launched from second on the grid, quickly gaining an advantage. He managed to pull ahead by over a second in the first five laps, despite Bezzecchi's attempts to catch up later in the race. Ultimately, Marquez secured his sixth sprint victory of the year.
Marquez explained that he switched to the medium tyre on the grid after analyzing the situation, believing that staying on the soft would limit his chances of winning. He noted that while the soft tyre could have led to a podium finish, the medium provided a better opportunity for victory. He also suggested that Bezzecchi's choice of tyre may have hindered his performance in the race.
