Marco Wittmann Secures Victory at Sachsenring DTM Race 1
Marco Wittmann, driving for Schubert BMW, achieved victory at the Sachsenring during the first race of the DTM season, converting his pole position into a win. This marks his second victory of the season, allowing him to narrow his gap in the overall standings to 14 points.
Wittmann faced strong competition, particularly from Jules Gounon of Winward Mercedes, who initially took the lead after the pit stops. However, Wittmann regained control after Gounon made a minor error. Thomas Preining from Manthey Porsche finished third, marking his fifth consecutive podium appearance.
Kelvin van der Linde, also from Schubert BMW, secured fourth place, while Maro Engel and Matteo Cairoli rounded out the top six. The race featured several incidents, including a safety car deployment due to a collision involving multiple drivers. The next DTM race at Sachsenring is scheduled for Sunday.
