Mariners Acquire Grant McCray from Giants
The Seattle Mariners have claimed outfielder Grant McCray off waivers from the San Francisco Giants, as confirmed by both teams. Following this move, the Mariners' 40-man roster now stands at 35, although they will need to reinstate players from the 60-day injured list by Monday.
McCray, who will turn 26 in December, was selected by the Giants in the third round of the 2019 draft and joined their 40-man roster in late 2024. He has played 102 games in the majors, recording a batting line of .170/.235/.323 over 247 plate appearances. Despite his struggles at the plate, he has demonstrated impressive sprint speed, ranking in the 95th percentile among qualified players this year.
In the minors from 2024 to 2026, McCray accumulated 1,185 plate appearances, achieving a .246 batting average and a 101 wRC+. The Mariners are expected to have an outfield lineup that includes Julio Rodríguez and others, and McCray could serve as a depth option in Triple-A for the upcoming season.
