Mariners and Astros Near Completion of Managerial and GM Searches
The offseason in Major League Baseball is progressing, with teams making critical roster decisions ahead of the November 2 deadline. By this date, all option decisions must be finalized, and players on the 60-day injured list need to be reinstated or removed from the roster, coinciding with the start of free agency at 4:00pm CT.
The Seattle Mariners are close to concluding their search for a new manager, with Joe Espada, a former Astros manager, and Jason Kanzler, the current Cubs director of player development, as the final candidates. Both have completed their in-person interviews, and the Mariners are expected to announce their choice soon, potentially as early as today, followed by an introductory press conference next week. After appointing a new manager, the team plans to enhance their bullpen and may consider trades involving their rotation depth.
Meanwhile, the Houston Astros made two option decisions recently, with Tatsuya Imai opting to stay and the team declining their option on Ryan Weiss. The Astros are looking to fill their GM position, with Brewers assistant GM Matt Kleine reportedly being the top candidate. Houston aims to finalize this appointment by Monday to prepare for the upcoming free agency period.
