Mariners' Michael Arroyo Undergoes Elbow Surgery
The Seattle Mariners announced that Michael Arroyo, a second baseman and left fielder, underwent an elbow scope procedure performed by Dr. Keith Meister two days ago. This surgery was intended to address cartilage issues and stabilize a chronic UCL injury.
As a result of the procedure, Arroyo is expected to begin the 2027 season on the injured list, although he may not miss an extended period. The Mariners might place him on the Triple-A injured list to allow for additional minor league time to compensate for missed Spring Training. Arroyo's position on the Opening Day roster was uncertain even prior to the injury, given his limited experience at the Triple-A level.
In 2026, Arroyo demonstrated strong performance, hitting .283/.359/.471 across 532 plate appearances in Double-A and Triple-A, which led to his promotion to the majors in September. He made a notable impact with a .371/.439/.514 batting line in his first 41 major league at-bats. Since being signed internationally in 2022, Arroyo has gained recognition as a top-100 prospect, showcasing his potential to contribute to the Mariners' future lineup.
