Mariners Retain Closer Andrés Muñoz, Decline Options on Bryce Miller and Victor Robles
The Seattle Mariners confirmed on Thursday that they have exercised a $9 million club option for closer Andrés Muñoz. In contrast, the team declined options for right-handed pitcher Bryce Miller and outfielder Victor Robles.
Miller, who is under club control through 2029 due to arbitration, had a $6.075 million option declined. The Mariners opted to pay a $15,000 buyout instead of activating the option, as Miller's projected arbitration salary is $3.9 million. Robles will receive a $500,000 buyout and is now a free agent.
Muñoz, despite a challenging season with a 4.24 ERA and 10 blown saves, will continue with the Mariners. His fastball averaged 99.8 mph, and he recorded a 37.1% strikeout rate. The Mariners are betting on his potential to return to form, especially given his affordable $10 million option for 2028.
