Mario Andretti and Jacky Ickx: A Lasting Friendship in Motorsport
Mario Andretti and Jacky Ickx, two iconic figures in motorsport, have maintained a close friendship for almost 60 years since they first raced together. Their bond, formed during a competitive era in grand prix and sportscar racing, remains strong despite their long careers and geographical separation.
The two drivers, who shared a garage at Ferrari in the early 1970s, reminisced about their time together during a recent video call. They expressed mutual admiration, recalling their successes on the track, including victories in endurance racing. Their partnership flourished particularly in sportscars, where they won four races together in 1972.
Both Andretti and Ickx have since retired but continue to be involved in motorsport. Andretti is active as a director for Cadillac's new F1 team, while Ickx serves as a brand ambassador for Genesis Magma Racing. Despite living in different parts of the world, they remain supportive of each other's endeavors and cherish the memories of their shared racing experiences.
