Marlins Appoint Dillon Lawson as New Hitting Coach
The Miami Marlins have appointed Dillon Lawson as their new hitting coach, succeeding Pedro Guerrero, who left after the season. Lawson previously worked with the Yankees and served as an assistant hitting coach for the Red Sox before joining the Marlins as a roving hitting coach this past summer.
The Marlins' offense ranked in the middle of the league this season, with a collective batting line of .249/.326/.400. Despite some players showing promise, several young hitters struggled, contributing to the team's overall performance. The Marlins scored 715 runs, placing them 18th in the league.
Lawson, 41, has extensive coaching experience, including roles with the Yankees and the Astros, as well as in college baseball. The Marlins are looking for a fresh approach to their hitting strategy, as emphasized by the team's president of baseball operations, who noted the need for a new voice aligned with the coaching staff.
