Marlins Part Ways with Pitcher Bradley Blalock
The Miami Marlins have announced the release of right-handed pitcher Bradley Blalock, as reported by the MLB.com transaction tracker. The 25-year-old is expected to explore opportunities overseas, potentially in Japan or South Korea.
Blalock joined the Marlins from the Rockies in January and spent one season with the team. He made four appearances in the MLB, giving up seven runs over 11 1/3 innings, while primarily serving as a starting pitcher for Triple-A Jacksonville. In the minors, he pitched 110 innings with a 5.56 ERA, achieving average strikeout, walk, and ground-ball rates.
Originally a 32nd round draft pick, Blalock has played parts of three seasons in the MLB, with a career ERA of nearly eight earned runs per nine innings across 100 2/3 innings. His performance at the Triple-A level has been less than stellar, partly due to challenges faced while playing in a hitter-friendly environment. During his MLB appearances this year, he averaged 96 mph with his fastball.
