Maro Engel Secures Pole Position at DTM Sachsenring Amid Challenging Conditions

Maro Engel from Winward-Mercedes achieved pole position in a challenging qualifying session for the DTM at the Sachsenring, held on a wet track. Engel recorded a time of 1:26.307, which was significantly slower than typical dry track times, as the conditions remained damp following a morning downpour.

This performance allowed Engel to narrow his championship deficit to three points behind leader Thomas Preining, who qualified sixth. Engel expressed satisfaction with his lap and credited his team's strategic discussions for the successful outcome.

Ricardo Feller of Manthey-Porsche secured second place, while Engel's teammate Jules Gounon took third. Other title contenders, including Marco Wittmann and Nicki Thiim, struggled, finishing 19th and 20th respectively. The race, featuring two mandatory pit stops, is set to take place in the afternoon, with the possibility of further rain affecting the outcome.
