Marta Kostyuk Advances to Guadalajara Open Quarter-Finals Without Competing
Marta Kostyuk has advanced to the quarter-finals of the Guadalajara Open without having played a point in the tournament. The Ukrainian player received a bye in the first round and progressed when her second-round opponent, Taylor Townsend, withdrew due to illness.
Kostyuk, currently ranked 10th in the world, is set to begin her tournament against eighth-seeded Liudmila Samsonova, who won her second-round match against Kayla Day. Earlier this year, Kostyuk secured her first WTA 1000 title in Madrid and reached the semi-finals at both the French Open and Wimbledon.
In her most recent outing, the 24-year-old was eliminated in the last 16 of the US Open by sixth seed Linda Noskova.
