Marta Kostyuk Defeats Katherine Sebov at National Bank Open
In the second round of the National Bank Open in Toronto, Marta Kostyuk defeated Katherine Sebov with a score of 7-6 (4), 6-0, reducing Canada's representation in the women's singles draw to two players.
Despite leading 4-1 in the first set, Sebov, a wild card entry, could not maintain her advantage as Kostyuk, the No. 10 seed, rallied to force a tiebreak. The Ukrainian player dominated the second set, securing her victory over Sebov, who is currently ranked 229th in the world.
Leylah Fernandez and Kayla Cross are the remaining Canadian competitors, with Fernandez set to play as the No. 30 seed against Renata Zarazua, while Cross faces No. 28 Ann Li. Earlier rounds saw several Canadian players, including 2019 champion Bianca Andreescu, eliminated.
