Masyn Winn Takes Key Step Toward Return for Cardinals

DENVER — The St. Louis Cardinals are on the verge of welcoming back Masyn Winn, a significant player for their lineup, just as they approach the critical September stretch.

On Friday, Winn engaged in batting practice at Coors Field, marking an important milestone in his recovery from a left thumb fracture sustained on August 18 while sliding into second base against the Cincinnati Reds. Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol noted that if Winn performs well in batting practice, he could be activated as soon as Saturday.

Winn has played 122 games this season, achieving a batting average of .238 with five home runs and 51 RBIs. His return would provide stability at shortstop for the Cardinals, who have been managing without him and JJ Wetherholt, who is currently on the injured list. As the Cardinals aim for a Wild Card spot, Winn's comeback could be crucial for their playoff aspirations.
