Matt Brash Shut Down for the Season Due to Lat Inflammation

The Seattle Mariners have announced that reliever Matt Brash will not return for the remainder of the season due to lat inflammation. Brash, who has been on the injured list since June 9, underwent an MRI that indicated further inflammation, although no structural damage was found.

Brash, who has been a reliable pitcher for the Mariners since 2023, will not throw for eight weeks. He had previously shown promise with a 2.47 ERA in 2025, but his performance in 2026 has been hindered by injuries, including a previous stint on the injured list for lat inflammation.

The Mariners' bullpen has struggled this season, ranking 24th in the Majors with a 4.51 ERA. Since the beginning of August, their performance has worsened, allowing nearly eight earned runs per nine innings. With Brash's absence, the team will rely on their current pitchers as they face challenges in their playoff pursuit.
