Matt Brown Comments on PFL-MVP Merger and UFC Competition

Retired UFC welterweight Matt Brown has expressed that the recent merger between PFL and Most Valuable Promotions is a wise business strategy, although he believes the new entity will still fall short of competing with the UFC.

During an appearance on The Fighter vs. The Writer podcast, Brown stated that the merger makes sense for both organizations, yet they will likely remain a distant second in the mixed martial arts industry. He supported UFC CEO Dana White's earlier comments dismissing the merger as a competitive threat.

Brown suggested that the merged promotion should focus on establishing its own identity instead of attempting to directly compete with the UFC. He noted that fighters often prioritize the opportunity to compete in the UFC over financial incentives, asserting that most would prefer a UFC fight for lower pay rather than a lucrative bout with PFL. While he acknowledged the potential for the merger to improve pay standards in the sport, he maintained that competing with the UFC in terms of star power is unlikely to succeed.
