Matt Hardy Discusses Vince McMahon's Plans Before His WWE Departure
Matt Hardy, a former AEW performer and current TNA Tag Team Champion, disclosed Vince McMahon's plans for him prior to his exit from WWE in 2020. During a podcast episode, Hardy explained that McMahon envisioned him taking on a backstage role instead of continuing his on-screen presence as his contract neared its end.
Hardy noted that both he and Christian were aware that McMahon saw greater potential in other wrestlers, such as Adam Copeland and Jeff Hardy. Despite McMahon's support, Hardy felt that the direction for his career was shifting towards a full-time producer or coach position, which he was reluctant to accept.
Hardy expressed his desire to continue wrestling, stating that he preferred to compete while he still had the opportunity. He anticipated that if he re-signed with WWE, he would eventually be relegated to a backstage role, as that was McMahon's vision for him.
