Matt Henningsen of the Broncos Suffers Another Achilles Injury
On August 10, 2025, Matt Henningsen, a defensive end for the Denver Broncos, sustained a season-ending Achilles tear during practice. Almost exactly one year later, he suffered a tear in his other Achilles, which was confirmed after he left the field on a cart.
This injury is particularly disappointing for Henningsen, who had shown promise during training camp when healthy. The 27-year-old will now face another season of rehabilitation and is set to become a free agent next year.
Henningsen, drafted in the sixth round in 2022, participated in all 17 games of his rookie season, contributing 21 tackles and a sack. He continued to play in every game in 2023, maintaining similar snap shares on defense and special teams. However, he did not play in any games in 2024, spending the year on the practice squad. This latest injury means he will go a third consecutive season without game action.
