Matt Kleine Considered for Astros General Manager Position
The Houston Astros are searching for a new general manager after parting ways with Dana Brown in late August. Matt Kleine, who serves as the assistant general manager for the Milwaukee Brewers, has emerged as a potential candidate for the position.
Astros owner Jim Crane indicated that the team would wait until after the season to begin the search for a replacement. While details about the process remain limited, it has been suggested that internal candidates, including assistant GM Charles Cook and senior advisor Jeff Bagwell, may also be considered. Kleine has been with the Brewers for nearly two decades, starting as an associate scout in 2007 and rising to assistant GM in 2023.
In addition to the GM search, the Astros are addressing leadership changes at both the team and executive levels, having recently let go of manager Joe Espada. The team finished the season with an 81-81 record, making the playoffs on the last day but being eliminated in the Wild Card round.
