The incident occurred on June 17 when Miller's Ford Bronco crossed a double yellow line on Missouri Route 96 and collided with a semi-truck. He was ejected from the vehicle and subsequently airlifted to a hospital.

Authorities charged Miller with failure to drive on the right half of the roadway. Investigators have not confirmed if he was distracted or under the influence at the time of the crash. Following the accident, complaints emerged regarding Miller's handling of charity fantasy football winnings, prompting an investigation by the Missouri attorney general's office. Miller has stated he is working to resolve these issues. His initial court hearing for the misdemeanor charge is set for September 21.
