Matt Payne Strengthens Supercars Championship Lead in Perth Races
Matt Payne achieved a victory and a second-place finish during two races at Wanneroo Raceway in Perth, further extending his lead in the Supercars championship.
The Grove Racing Ford driver started both 50-lap races from pole position. Despite a slow start in the first race, Payne maintained control and quickly regained his lead after a safety car period that had erased a nearly five-second advantage.
In the second race, after overcoming initial starting issues, Payne faced a challenge when he was blocked by a car entering the pit lane, allowing Broc Feeney to take the lead and secure a win, ending a seven-race winless streak. Payne's teammate, Kai Allen, finished third in the second race, while other notable performances included Ryan Wood and Chaz Mostert from the Walkinshaw TWG Toyotas. The Supercars series will continue with another race in Perth on Sunday.
