Matthew Brennan Claims Victory in Vuelta a España Stage 2
Matthew Brennan achieved victory in stage 2 of the Vuelta a España on Sunday, marking a significant milestone in his Grand Tour debut.
During the uphill sprint in Manosque, Brennan outpaced competitors including Pau Miquel, race leader Tadej Pogačar, and Mads Pedersen. With 2km remaining, Brennan's teammate Wout van Aert made a decisive move, which Pogačar managed to follow. However, as the front group hesitated, Brennan surged ahead to secure his win.
Brennan expressed satisfaction with the team's strategy, which allowed him to capitalize on the situation. Meanwhile, Ethan Hayter, who had been close to Pogačar in the standings, participated in a breakaway but ultimately finished 31 seconds behind. Pogačar retained the overall lead, with Van Aert moving to second place and Brennan rising to third.
