
Matthew Filiaci Becomes First Commit for Penn State Baseball Class of 2028
Matthew Filiaci, a left-handed pitcher from West Orange, New Jersey, has officially committed to play baseball for Penn State University, as announced on his Instagram on Sunday.
Filiaci is the inaugural commitment for head coach Mike Gambino's 2028 recruiting class. He plays for Seton Hall Prep, where he has made a notable impact in his first varsity season, pitching in seven games with 30 strikeouts and a 2.19 ERA. His pitching repertoire includes an 87 mph fastball and an 81 mph changeup, along with a curveball and slider.
In addition to his pitching skills, Filiaci has demonstrated offensive capability with a .333 batting average and a .548 slugging percentage, recording eight hits and one RBI during the season.
