Mavericks Release Veteran Center Dwight Powell
The Dallas Mavericks have announced the release of veteran center Dwight Powell, reducing their roster to the required 15 players. Powell, who had been with the team for 12 years, was waived shortly after re-signing on a minimum-salary contract with a $1 million guarantee.
During his time with the Mavericks, Powell played a total of 63 games last season, averaging 3.3 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 1.1 assists. He participated in three preseason games this month, aiming for one more season in the NBA. Team president Masai Ujiri praised Powell for his professionalism and contributions both on and off the court.
With Powell's departure, the Mavericks had previously waived guards Seth Lundy and John Poulakidas to meet the roster limit. Powell is expected to become an unrestricted free agent if he goes unclaimed on waivers.
