Max Scherzer Joins All-Time Top 10 Strikeout Leaders

Max Scherzer made headlines over the weekend by recording his 3,516th career strikeout, which places him in the all-time top 10 strikeout leaders. The 42-year-old pitcher, who has faced challenges during the 2026 season due to injuries, achieved this milestone during a game against the Philadelphia Phillies at Citizens Bank Park.

In addition to Scherzer's accomplishment, Aaron Nola of the Phillies reached his 2,000th career strikeout in the same game. Meanwhile, Gerrit Cole of the New York Yankees celebrated his 1,000th strikeout since joining the team, and Jacob Misiorowski became the first pitcher this season to achieve 200 strikeouts.

Scherzer's performance included five scoreless innings before he faced Kyle Schwarber, who he struck out to secure his milestone. Despite the achievement, Scherzer's outing ended with the Blue Jays winning 7-5 in extra innings, lowering his ERA to 7.25. Nola's game ended prematurely due to a right knee contusion, but the injury is not expected to be serious.
