Max Verstappen Faces Investigation After Collision in FP1 at Portimao
Max Verstappen's debut weekend at the GT World Challenge Europe in Portimao began with a collision just three minutes into Free Practice 1, which is currently under investigation.
Driving the #3 Verstappen Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3, Verstappen made contact with Ezequiel Perez Companc's #25 Sainteloc Racing Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo II at Turn 3. The incident occurred amid heavy traffic on the 4.653km circuit, prompting race control to assess the situation, which could result in a grid penalty for Verstappen.
After the incident, Verstappen continued to work on the car's setup, initially ranking around 20th before improving to 10th and finishing 20th overall with a best lap time of 1m43.026s. His teammate Ben Barnicoat also participated, marking his return to the Mercedes-AMG GT3. Christopher Haase recorded the fastest time of the session with a lap of 1m42.643s.
