Max Verstappen Makes GT World Challenge Europe Debut in Portimao
Max Verstappen, a four-time Formula 1 world champion, is entering the GT World Challenge Europe for the first time during the season finale in Portimao this weekend.
He will drive the #3 Mercedes-AMG GT3, sharing the vehicle with Chris Lulham and Ben Barnicoat. This participation follows a scheduling conflict that left regular drivers Daniel Juncadella and Jules Gounon unavailable due to commitments in the World Endurance Championship.
The GT World Challenge Europe is recognized as a premier GT3 championship, featuring a competitive grid of nearly 60 cars. Verstappen's involvement is expected to draw significant attention to the event, particularly as he competes alongside notable figures like Valentino Rossi. However, Verstappen Racing is not in contention for the championship title, which has already been secured by Winward Racing.
