Max Verstappen Reflects on Singapore Sprint Win and Qualifying Challenges
Max Verstappen achieved his first victory at the Marina Bay Street Circuit during the rain-delayed Singapore Grand Prix Sprint, but he expressed dissatisfaction with his performance. After a weather delay led to the race starting on intermediate tyres, Verstappen's poor launch from pole position allowed George Russell of Mercedes to take the lead at Turn 1.
Despite inheriting the win when Russell crashed at the end of the opening lap, Verstappen remains troubled by his starting issues throughout the season. He noted that the Racing Bulls, Red Bull's sister team, have been executing better starts, indicating a need for improvement in his team's launch capabilities.
Looking ahead to the main Grand Prix, Verstappen anticipates a challenging qualifying session. He highlighted that the sprint format limits tyre usage, making it difficult to predict grid positions. He expects his competitors to be closer to his pace in the traditional qualifying format, where drivers can make multiple runs on the soft tyre.
