McLaren Aims to Develop Rotating Rear Wing Following Ferrari's Lead

McLaren's Formula 1 tech director Neil Houldey has revealed the team's ongoing development of a rotating rear wing, inspired by Ferrari's earlier implementation. The team expressed disappointment at not adopting the innovative design as swiftly as Ferrari, which debuted the concept during winter testing.

After Ferrari's successful testing, Red Bull Racing also introduced a different version of the rotating wing, which faced challenges during its initial runs. McLaren's attempts to test their design were hindered by issues discovered during practice in Austria, leading to further refinements. The team successfully trialed the wing in Hungary and plans to debut it after the summer break.

Houldey noted the complexities involved in the rotating wing's design, particularly regarding aerodynamic performance and activation timing. McLaren is focused on enhancing aerodynamic efficiency with this new wing, which is expected to be integrated into their race car in upcoming events.
