McLaren Poised to Compete with Mercedes Following Upgrade
Sky Sports Formula 1 commentator David Croft has indicated that McLaren's latest upgrade package, introduced at the Hungarian Grand Prix, has positioned the team to effectively challenge Mercedes as the 2026 season progresses.
McLaren aimed to reduce the performance gap to Mercedes after a challenging start to the season, and Lando Norris achieved his first grand prix victory as reigning champion. Croft noted that the upgrades have unlocked significant pace for McLaren, allowing them to improve their understanding of their power unit.
Norris currently ranks fifth in the drivers' standings with 128 points, trailing championship leader Kimi Antonelli by 91 points. Croft believes that Norris still has a chance to contend for the title, emphasizing the importance of McLaren maximizing their advantages moving forward.
