McLaren Team Principal Optimistic After Singapore Sprint Qualifying
Andrea Stella, the team principal of McLaren, has expressed optimism regarding the team's performance after the Sprint qualifying session at the Marina Bay Street Circuit for the 2026 Formula 1 championship.
The session featured a competitive grid with Max Verstappen of Red Bull Racing taking pole position, followed closely by George Russell from Mercedes, Charles Leclerc of Scuderia Ferrari, and McLaren's Oscar Piastri in fourth. Stella noted that the presence of four different constructors in the top four positions indicates a stabilization in competitive order.
Stella highlighted the challenges McLaren faced in previous races, particularly in Azerbaijan and Malaysia, where vehicle dynamics were unpredictable. He expressed satisfaction with the team's performance in Singapore, viewing it as a positive sign for future races. The team adopted an unconventional strategy during the qualifying session, allowing both drivers to make multiple attempts to optimize their performance. Looking ahead, McLaren is focused on the upcoming Sprint race to further refine their car's setup.
