McLaren's Fornaroli to Compete in 2027 World Endurance Championship
Leonardo Fornaroli, currently a reserve driver for McLaren in Formula 1, will participate in the 2027 World Endurance Championship as part of the team's new Hypercar program.
The 21-year-old Italian is set to drive the McLaren MCL-HY during its inaugural season, which includes the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans. Fornaroli previously secured championships in Formula 3 and Formula 2 in 2024 and 2025, respectively, before joining McLaren's driver development program.
This new role allows Fornaroli to engage in a full racing schedule while still fulfilling his reserve duties in Formula 1. He expressed enthusiasm about this opportunity, attributing it to his experience as a reserve driver. McLaren's Hypercar team principal, James Barclay, noted that Fornaroli's skills would enhance a driver lineup that combines seasoned sports car racers with emerging talent.
