Melon's Journey Through FIP and the Quest for Treatment

This spring, a cat named Melon exhibited concerning symptoms, including significant weight gain and a lack of appetite, prompting her owner to seek veterinary help. After an emergency visit revealed that Melon's abdomen was filled with fluid, the veterinarian suggested potential diagnoses, including feline infectious peritonitis (FIP), a historically fatal disease.

As Melon's condition worsened, her owner turned to a Facebook group for support, leading to the acquisition of an experimental drug, GS-441524, from a black-market source. Despite initial treatment challenges, including multiple vet visits and complications from injections, Melon was eventually diagnosed with FIP and began a rigorous treatment regimen.

Over the following weeks, Melon showed signs of improvement, regaining her strength and playful behavior. However, the experience highlighted the difficulties of accessing life-saving medication for pets, as well as the emotional toll on her owner, who navigated the complexities of veterinary care and the underground treatment landscape.
