Memphis Depay Defends Controversial Music Video Featuring Corinthians HQ
Memphis Depay, a forward for the Netherlands, has defended his new music video for 'Don't Panic,' which features the headquarters of Brazilian club Corinthians, Parque São Jorge, in flames. This release comes shortly after a contract dispute with the club.
Depay recently agreed to a significant pay cut to remain with Corinthians after the club chose not to renew his contract. The music video was launched just a day after he assisted in helping Corinthians advance to the quarter-finals of the Copa Libertadores, and it appears to reference his recent conflicts with the club.
In the song, while not naming specific individuals, Depay mentions 'rivals' and alludes to a vice-president as an enemy. Amid protests from fans regarding the club's ownership and financial issues, Depay clarified that the video was filmed months prior and emphasized that it is merely artistic expression. He also stated his opposition to violence.
