Memphis Depay Takes Pay Cut to Remain at Corinthians
Memphis Depay has decided to take a pay cut to stay with Corinthians, following the club's earlier decision not to renew his contract. The former Manchester United player joined Corinthians after leaving Atletico Madrid in May 2024.
Despite expressing dissatisfaction with the club's actions last week, Depay has now agreed to a new contract that runs until 2028. Corinthians president Osmar Stabile confirmed that Depay significantly reduced his financial demands to facilitate the agreement, which was a lengthy negotiation process.
Depay has scored 20 goals in 79 matches for Corinthians and contributed to their victories in the Copa do Brasil in 2025 and the Supercopa do Brasil this year. Initially, the club was hesitant to extend his contract due to financial concerns, but the new deal is structured to accommodate their budget.
