Bill Dundee, a celebrated figure in Memphis wrestling, has passed away at the age of 82. His death occurred on Sunday morning, although no cause has been disclosed.
Dundee was a nine-time AWA Southern Heavyweight Champion and had been diagnosed with dementia earlier in 2023. Originally from Scotland and raised in Australia, he began his wrestling career in 1962 after starting as a trapeze artist.
Throughout his career, Dundee became a staple in the Memphis wrestling scene, known for his rivalries with stars like Jerry Lawler and Jimmy Valiant. His matches often featured dramatic stipulations, including high-stakes hair matches. Later in his career, he briefly joined WCW and spent time promoting and wrestling on the independent circuit before retiring in 2019.
