Men's Rugby League State of Origin to be Held in New Zealand for the First Time
The men's rugby league State of Origin is set to be hosted in New Zealand for the first time, with the event confirmed for Auckland in 2027.
The Australian Rugby League Commission announced that Game II of the series will occur at Eden Park on June 16, 2027. This will be only the second instance of the State of Origin being played outside Australia, following a match in California in 1987.
ARLC chairman Peter V'landys highlighted the unique atmosphere of the State of Origin, emphasizing the planned week-long rugby league festival in Auckland leading up to the match. This festival will include a Warriors game at Eden Park the Sunday before the Origin event. The State of Origin series has attracted significant interest since its start in 1980, with recent eligibility rule changes allowing players to represent multiple teams.
