Merab Dvalishvili Discusses Backstage Altercation with Umar Nurmagomedov's Fan
Merab Dvalishvili recently addressed a backstage altercation that occurred during his homecoming event in Georgia, where he was set to compete against Henry Cejudo. The incident took place the day before their match on July 11, following a heated press conference.
While relaxing backstage, Dvalishvili was confronted by Ahmed Gadzhimagomedov, a supporter of Umar Nurmagomedov, who grabbed him and yelled in Russian. Dvalishvili, who has limited understanding of the language, interpreted the confrontation as a warning to refrain from discussing Umar. He expressed confusion over the encounter, as he had never met Gadzhimagomedov before.
Dvalishvili emphasized that his rivalry with Umar should remain between the two fighters, despite the escalating tensions. He acknowledged his respect for the Nurmagomedov family and other fighters from Dagestan, but noted his disdain for Umar and his manager. Dvalishvili is now focused on his upcoming fight against Petr Yan at UFC 333, while Umar is scheduled to face Song Yadong in China.
