Mercedes Evaluates Timing for Upcoming Upgrades
Mercedes is currently deliberating on the optimal timing for its upcoming upgrades as the Formula 1 season progresses. Despite securing ten poles and eight wins in eleven races, the team has not maintained the expected advantage, particularly since being outscored by Ferrari since the Austrian Grand Prix.
The team principal, Toto Wolff, has expressed the need for a strategic approach to introducing upgrades, emphasizing the importance of timing to maximize performance impact. He noted that the team cannot afford to introduce upgrades at every race as they did previously, and must instead plan carefully for the second half of the season.
Additionally, both drivers are on their fourth engines of the season, which raises the likelihood of grid penalties later in the year. The team is working on strategies to manage engine usage effectively as the season continues.
