Mercedes Implements Split Strategy for Singapore GP with George Russell on Older Spec
Mercedes has announced its strategy for the upcoming Singapore Grand Prix, confirming that George Russell will drive an older car specification while Kimi Antonelli will utilize the latest aerodynamic upgrades.
This decision follows team principal Toto Wolff's confirmation of a split-specification comparison test aimed at addressing issues with their aerodynamic updates. As the paddock prepares for the race weekend, photos indicate that Mercedes mechanics are dividing the aerodynamic packages between the two drivers.
Russell's assignment to the older package comes after he faced a power unit failure during the recent Sepang race, resulting in a mandatory engine penalty for the Singapore event. Starting from the back of the grid on a challenging street circuit limits his chances for a strong finish, prompting Mercedes to use this opportunity to gather valuable data without jeopardizing Antonelli's championship lead.
