Merion Golf Club Designated as Fourth U.S. Open Anchor Site
The United States Golf Association (USGA) has officially designated Merion Golf Club, located outside Philadelphia, as the fourth anchor site for the U.S. Open. This announcement was made on Thursday.
Merion joins Pinehurst Resort, Oakmont Country Club, and Pebble Beach Golf Links as anchor sites, indicating the USGA's intention to regularly return to these prestigious courses for the championship. Although Merion has only hosted the U.S. Open once in the last 44 years, it has a rich history of hosting amateur events, including the recent U.S. Amateur.
The USGA has already scheduled the U.S. Open at Merion for 2030, 2040, and 2050, and the course is also set to host the U.S. Women's Open in 2034 and 2046. The USGA's chief championships officer highlighted Merion's significance in championship golf and the commitment to enhance the championship experience at this historic venue.
