Merseycare Transport Charity Faces Financial Investigation
The Charity Commission has initiated a statutory inquiry into Merseycare Transport Ltd, a charity based in Wirral, Merseyside, that provides transport services for vulnerable individuals. This investigation is prompted by concerns regarding the charity's financial management and governance.
Merseycare Transport reported a turnover of £1.92 million for the financial year ending March 2025, which included over £300,000 from government contracts. The inquiry aims to determine if there has been any misconduct or mismanagement of charitable funds, as well as whether the charity has adhered to its accounting obligations.
Additional issues raised by the Charity Commission include the charity having an insufficient number of trustees, which violates its governing document. The charity's recent financial accounts indicated a deficit of approximately £60,000, and they reported spending on staff entertainment. Merseycare Transport has not provided any comments regarding the investigation.
