Merseyside Implements First 72-Hour Dispersal Zone in Garston
Merseyside Police have initiated the region's first 72-hour dispersal zone in Garston, Liverpool, following reports of anti-social behaviour. The order took effect at 12:00 GMT and will remain active until Saturday at the same time.
The decision was made in response to incidents involving young people using fireworks, starting fires, and intimidating local residents over the past week. The designated area includes Garston Park and Speke Road, with additional officers deployed to enhance patrols during this period.
Under the new order, police have the authority to require individuals suspected of causing disturbances to leave the area for up to 48 hours, with potential arrest for non-compliance. The recent government measures have allowed for the extension of dispersal orders from 48 to 72 hours. Police can also confiscate items related to anti-social behaviour, including vehicles. Inspector Richard Smith emphasized the need for increased police presence to reassure residents and address ongoing issues in Garston.
