Merseyside Police Sergeant Honored for Daring Rescue

Sgt Dave Hicks of Merseyside Police was honored at a ceremony in Liverpool Parish Church for his courageous actions in rescuing a woman from drowning in Liverpool Bay on August 17, 2024.

After responding to reports of two individuals in distress, Hicks successfully saved the first person before running 500 meters to locate the second, who was struggling 150 meters offshore. He entered the water without his body armor, aided by a member of the public, and they fought strong currents to reach the unconscious woman. After securing her on a life ring, they swam back to shore, where Hicks felt immense relief when she regained consciousness.

The ceremony also recognized other emergency service personnel, including a rescue dog named Scout, who assisted in earthquake recovery efforts in Venezuela. The Lord Mayor of Liverpool praised the dedication and selflessness of emergency services, highlighting their commitment to community values.
