After Atletico de San Luis took an early lead with a goal from David Rodriguez, Messi equalized by volleying a cross from Noah Allen. He then scored again just before halftime, bringing his total to 14 goals in the League Cup, making him the competition's top scorer. Messi also assisted Micael's goal, further contributing to Miami's win.

Despite a weather delay and a dislocated shoulder injury to substitute Mateo Silvetti, Miami managed to secure the victory. Atletico's coach Diego Mejia acknowledged Messi's exceptional talent, stating that his team struggled to contain him.
