Meta Removes Fraudulent Ads Following Indian Government Alert
Meta has removed several advertisements from Facebook and Instagram after the Indian government raised concerns about fraudulent ads targeting users. The government reported that these ads, operating under names like Night Play and Kyss, were leading users to phishing websites.
Following the advisory issued on Monday, at least 39 ads were found still active, many featuring explicit video thumbnails to attract clicks. Meta acted quickly to take down these ads after being alerted by Reuters.
The Indian government has previously expressed concerns about financial fraud on technology platforms, having directed Google to shut down accounts used by scammers impersonating banks. The fraudulent apps in question were reported to potentially access sensitive user information and facilitate unauthorized transactions.
