Mets Acquire Kyren Paris from Angels
The New York Mets have claimed Kyren Paris, an infielder/outfielder, off waivers from the Los Angeles Angels. In conjunction with this move, the Mets have designated outfielder Cristian Pache for assignment.
Paris, who will turn 25 next month, is a former second-round draft pick with four seasons of major league experience. He has demonstrated athleticism, speed, and raw power, but he needs to reduce his strikeout rate significantly to secure a role as a bench player. His career statistics include a .147/.238/.272 batting line with seven home runs and 11 stolen bases over 263 plate appearances, with a strikeout rate of 38%.
Despite limited opportunities with the Angels this season, Paris had a strong performance in the minor leagues, posting a .274/.384/.458 line with 13 home runs and 24 steals across Double-A and Triple-A. He has primarily played middle infield but possesses the speed to contribute in the outfield as well. This season marks the end of his minor league options, meaning he must either secure a spot on the Mets' roster or be placed back on waivers before Opening Day. Meanwhile, Pache, who is also out of options, has struggled offensively, hitting .181/.242/.273 in his career.
